Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
